Readers Unite, and Write!

As a mood reader, there are times when I want something very specific to read. Often, I can’t find it or when I do find it, the mood has passed and the poor book languishes, unread, on a pile of good intentions.

Some other authors in a writer’s Discord group I’m in were lamenting the lack of stories about male fantasy healers who are the main character. The topic came up several times, and then suddenly it happened.

An anthology was born.

I’m cursed with the ability to tie everything together into a giant web of plot threads. Pull one and another one falls apart. Poke this, and that pops out. I decided to participate in the anthology and naturally, I land on the perfect story to tell - a side-side plot from the last quarter of my unwritten WW2 urban fantasy series. Go figure. Very little of my worldbuilding was planned that far into the series and I set the starting location of the short story in a military campaign I know nothing about.

That’s where knowledgeable friends who are also readers come in. A two-hour phone call later and I was much better prepared to write.

The goal is 10,000-20,000 words by the beginning of July.

I’m at 7,000 words.

I’ve read snippets of the other authors’ stories and they’re good. Be on the lookout for something awesome later this year.
